Part of our Mission Statement here at St. James School says, “Since 1890, Saint James School has been committed to the development of the whole child." With this in mind, our school offers a variety of clubs, and activities for all grade levels.
Students in kindergarten and first grade dance to Zumba music. It is great exercise, works on gross motor skills, following directions, and socialization. The children have a blast and focus on improving their dance moves each time!
Grades 5-8 are trained in "the spoken word" using skills learned: enunciation, pitch, voice control, and delivering a speech in public. Students compete in local competitions.
Dance Club is open for students in grades 3-5. Students learn basic dance steps in Square Dancing, Line Dancing and Ballroom Dancing set to music in a cooperative, fun environment.
Primo Coro
This ensemble is available to students in grades four and five. It provides an excellent opportunity to learn self-discipline, group cohesiveness, and trust, as students develop their voices within a vocal ensemble. Students will learn to sing a variety of choral literature and styles from around the world in unison and some two-part harmony. Through weekly rehearsals, various musical concepts are taught with an emphasis on those skills relating to singing: correct breathing and vocal techniques (diction, blend, balance, phrasing, intonation, articulation, and tone quality). This ensemble has two main performances: Christmas and Spring Concerts. It also performs at various community events.
Concert Choir
This ensemble is available to students in grades six, seven and eight. Young Mens Ensemble
One of the newest members to our ensemble family, YME is specifically designed for the changing, young male singer in grades seven and eight. It provides an excellent opportunity to learn self-discipline, group cohesiveness, and trust, as students develop their voices within a vocal ensemble. The boys will learn to sing a music suitable for their changing voices. Through weekly rehearsals, various musical concepts are taught with an emphasis on those skills relating to singing: correct breathing and vocal techniques (diction, blend, balance, phrasing, intonation, articulation, and tone quality). The YME has two main performances: Christmas and Spring Concerts.
Chapel Choir
This ensemble is comprised of students selected by the choir director from Choirs 4 & 5 and 6, 7 & 8. The Chapel Choir rehearses to prepare music for St. James School liturgies.
Handbell Choir
Students in the handbell choir rehearse once a week, after school. Various musical concepts are taught with an emphasis on those skills relating to playing an instrument: form, technique, note/rhythm reading and bell maintenance. The Handbell Choir has two main performances: Christmas and Spring Concerts.
A team of seventh and eighth grade students designs, builds, and programs a robot using Lego Mindstorm pieces. They compete in the FIRST Lego league. The students research and present an original solution to a real-life scientific problem. Teamwork and originality are an important part of our program!
In yearbook club, students will gain skills in one or more of the following areas: page design, advanced publishing techniques, graphics, editing and photography while producing a creative, innovative yearbook which records school memories and events. students gain useful, real world skills in time management, responsibility, teamwork, and design principles. The club meets weekly, and is available to select seventh and eighth grade students.
St. James Student Council is a group of students dedicated to their school and community. Student Council Members learn about the democratic process, civic responsibility, problem solving and teamwork.
The Role of St. James School Student Council:
Promote acts of kindness and positive attitudes throughout the school.
Plan activities and special events.
Assist with service projects for both the school and community.
Facilitate communication between students, faculty and administration.
